Thanks Narcan - had a 3lbs. bass from approx. the same spot on a blue/silver lure yesterday - it had 5 crabs and a small piece of lugworm in its gut.

Brilliant report there Narcan. (;o) That Bass looks fantastic. As a matter of interest what sort of speed were you trolling at? Chris.

Hi all. The short rod debate. - My first rod for the yak was a spinning rod that had been broken and repaired, cut down to 5 ft. it is very light and a bit pokey. I liked it so much i bought a Maxximus ice pike from malc at ABC. At 4ft 3" made of solid carbon it is very strong, very light and coupled up with an ABU 5000 and braid makes a superb fun set up. The Maxximus was £35. The masterline is about £20 so neither of them will break the bank and fun will be had, Guaranteed. Steve

Hi Mate,
Just a gentle paddle, enough to see the rod bend so that the lure is working.
Check it now and again for silk weed that can go un noticed and will kill the action of the lure.
