ive been told if you register a vhf radio online with OFCOM that its free.has anyone done this,and does that then mean that you are legal to use the radio then?

You need to do a one day course and pass an exam at the end of it. You will then get a Maritime Radio Operator Certificate of Competence (short range certificate). You need this and to register with Ofcom to be legal. Courses tend to cost £60- £100 and are run all over the country.

If you not got your VHF license yet, I'm arranging a course to get one, just need more names on the list before I can arrange a date. If you're interested could you add your name to the list, then I know who to contact nearer the time.

You could put me down Mark - already got my long range cert from my sailing days which should cover VHF as well but it was a good few years ago now so a refresher would do no harm. Martin

up to date I have five names for the VHF course.
Mark (300mph) Martin (empee) Mac Simon (glynny) and Mowboy
I will be getting in touch Dave Brewer of Holyhead coast guard again regarding VHF license course date, to confirm a date we need 6 to 10 name confirmed. If anyone is interested can to please let me know please.
The cost for the 1 day course is £65.00

Hi All
Just got off the phone with Dave regarding the VHF course, he has comfirmed that he can run a course for us on the 29 or 30th August, and due to the numbers that is attending the course will now cost us £55.00 each. Can the lads with there names on the list please comfirm which day that they can attend, the course is a one day course and will be hold on Anglesey.
