The outcome of DEFRA's Sustainable Access to Inshore Fisheries review will have a fundamental impact on the quality of recreational fishing along our coasts in future. Stakeholders now have until 19th March to submit their views. THIS MEANS YOU!! Take the time!! At the very least the proposition should acknowledge the impact that inshore fishing capacity has on the RSA sector, which generates businesses, livelihoods and considerable social and economic value to UK coastal economies, and ensure that RSA interests are represented in developing and implementing proposals that will affect the future quality of inshore fisheries. www.defra.gov.uk/foodfarm/fisheries/documents/fisheries/saif-proposition.pdf ...................A better balance between the capacity of vessels to fish and the available fishing opportunity will increase the chances of achieving a fully sustainable inshore fisheries management system. The changes needed to put capacity and opportunity into balance must take into account all of the users putting pressure on fish and shellfish stocks and the marine environment (including recreational fishers)............., .....All „local‟ fisheries should be covered by a management plan, setting out how the local arrangements will ensure fish and shellfish are harvested sustainably, how these arrangements will apply to all harvesters (including recreational and charter fishers) and how the health of the fishery will be monitored and measured.....
