Hi everyone.
I thought it was time to share the mods I've made to my Moken 12 so far. Firstly it was to fit the anchor trolley.
All the bits for the fitting. Watertrail anchor trolley kit, trifold rivets, zig zag cleat, bungee loop.
I had lots of unused bungee cords in the garage so decided to utilise 2 of them by cutting the hooks off and then threading them through the Harken cheeks. The cheeks were designed to be bolted to the yak so the SS bolts and nylock nuts were still used to keep them together but reversed so the bolt head is facing the inside, however about 5mm had to be sawn off the bolts to make the nut and bolt be flush inside the cheeks moulding.
Then looped through the moulded bow and stern handles of the yak. I did this to minimise drilling and if I wanted to change it in the future. Then using 3 good quality zip ties the bungees were bound together and secured and a 4th kept the loop that bit neater.
Once it was fixed at both ends the trolley line, hook and ring were attached. The bungee loop and small aluminium karabiner were added to help keep the line off the top of the yak.
The zig zag cleat was then drilled and riveted on the top edge close to the seat for ease of access for both the trolley line and the quick release rope that I will use. It also is far enough back so it doesnt interfere with putting the yak on the roof rack.
Next was the fitting of a Berkley rod holder I picked up when visiting Helsinki last year.
The Moken comes with flush mounted rod holders so one was removed and the drill holes cleaned up. This keeps the left had side one still in place and two more at the back behind the seat.
Next was to strengthen the area for the new rod holder so a cheap Ikea chopping board was bought, measured up, drilled and siliconed to the flush mount. Then the mount for the rod holder base was riveted down and holder positioned.
Quite pleased with the mods. Wanted to keep everything nice and neat and not spend a fortune. Didnt have any probs along the way although I found the rivets a bit inconsistent. Sometimes they would snap cleanly and other times not or once or twice pull though with ease like a standard aluminium one. Has anyone else experienced this?
Next job is to mount a Garmin 140 and have ordered a RAM mount base, arm and plate so the fishfinder can be moved and is at eye level. I'll post when done!
Thanks for reading!
