Good luck with it Alan but without chain you may find it slips, I will be very interested to hear how you get on.

I gave it a go and it needs some tweaking, the swirling eddies and blasting winds didn't help...! Trying to fish as well wasn't a good combination, should have just done some drift fishing . Or no fishing and just anchoring practice... Once i lost my rig,i packed in just as the winds got a lot stronger... Will be giving it another go very soon ............

Last Saturday at Cable Bay i tried and tested my homemade anchor...........and it worked I had to use approx 4ft of chain and attached to that was 6ft approx of climbing type rope.. This was then clipped to the dive reel by the small carabina. The rope was to eliminate the risk chaffing the dive reel line on the seabed. Caught ALL of the fish on the drift....! But,the anchor held when i tried it and i was able to relax a bit..... Used a red plastic cistern ballcock as a marker float, attached to an elastic loop with a small s/s D link. Had a suitable cable tie as a safety break which i tested on land first to see how much pressure it needed to snap. I left about 2 links slack of chain between the two fasten points on the anchor,so the cable tie had some free play to allow to release.

Brilliant..! That it worked... Had to assist Moniar with his anchor(grappnel)as it got well and truly stuck.....i've made him an anchor the same as mine but in green So,i came along side and took up the slack and tied his marker buoy directly,so it wouldn't slide by the time we got to the rock to pull it ashore it had freed itself . Great when a plan comes together......... Many wouldn't have ventured out that day,but it was enjoyable....................
