You can't buy happiness. But you can buy fishing gear. It's kind of the same thing.

Very nice. I'm at penryn bay only a couple of miles from there. What's the best bait? I'm considering hair rigged hard crab. I know gethen on my way does very well with them, what do you think. Gaz

Looks like Saturday might open up for you, might even join you Any Crab bait will work for the smoothies, personally I'd use peeler over hard backs but nothing ventured nothing gained.

The high tides are about 9.00 and 21.30ish. What do you think the best fishing time for church bay will be? Gaz

I had a drive out into North Wales today, it was quite blowey but fish-able in some places. My back was killing but it's gonna be fine soon.
I like Church Bay but it has more than its share of the dreaded dogfish! I need to get out there with some peeler crab :-) If these winds don't ever abate, then maybe we should all head for the inside of Holyhead breakwater and fish for whatever swims.....
Thanks for all the advice, particularly Shaun, it won't go unheeded

Gaz Its not a place I've fished before though so I'm not 100% but as a starting point; The tides are fairly small so the flood will no doubt fish better than the ebb, I'd look at launching near low water, spend some time finding a nice spot of ground and fish till last light. I'd start by fishing the up tide side of the reef then drop to the downside if nothing was happening.

Sounds good to me, wish I could make it Look out for ferry wakes which this bay is famous for - the so called 6 o' clock wave - though I have not experienced it the 3 times that I have fished there. When the packs are there you will catch BIG smoothies when the packs are not there you will catch ..... Dogfish !! AND they loved my best peeler/softback With this unsettled weather the wind forecast is over my 10 mph limit for anchoring so would be border line for me - but I am a bit of a wuss I always play safe because of the effort getting there, especially when fishing on my own. Good Luck Lads wherever you try.

The wind Forecast has picked back up again for Saturday afternoon. Behind the break water will still be fishable but its along way for me to go to fish for small smoothies, if your up that way though you may aswel If you do get out be sure to report back, loads of lads taking info from the forum and are getting out fishing but still don't post a report, IMO its the least someone can do. I appreciate not everyone has loads of info to give about marks, tactics etc but a fishing report from someones first launch is just as useful as someone who has launched everyday for the last 3 months and unsuccessful reports are just as important as the successful reports Shaun

Changed my mind at last minute. Decided to give church bay a go. No yaks there but a couple of commercial boat. Set out to try and reach them but it was too rough. I got about 2/3 of the way there and decided to anchor. I stayed for about 2 hrs until it got too rough, I was using rag tipped with squid. A dozen doggies later I called it a day feeling abit queezy. I am back on my site now hoping it will calm abit later so I can lunch from here. Gaz
