Every man woman child and their cats & dogs were fishing for Mackerel at Penmon, Anglesey! As the car park attendant said people were overflowing with mackerel ! Some thought the world was coming to an end and took three figure amounts of fish away ! It's the first time in a while since I've seen full rigs of fish coming to the surface and landed. Whilst I was ledger fishing with one hook baited with black lug I think there was too much excitement going on for anything to take notice of it. The Dolphins made an appearance whilst feeding off the shoals, which were betrayed by the flocking seagulls. Only to trigger an on slaught of uncontrolled lead missiles attached to a string of decorated glittery coloured feather hooks ! The Mackerel never stood a chance..........so hurry whilst stocks last ! There might be a few stragglers left ps Minimum Mackerel legal landing length is 200mm/8"

Was at Moelfre on the Sunday (not fishing) and the mackies were attacking the huge fry shoals there too. They were in close along the whole shore line. Not seen this much action for a long time - great to see.

Not seen this much action for a long time - great to see. A few kayak anglers have been out most of all this last week around Anglesey and had an awesome time. The weather and sea state made them retreat to the Straits, and the excitement continued So, they'll be putting photos and video on their forum and fb. I was lucky to see some of their underwater footage of Mackerel rounding up and devouring whitebait........!

It's quite a rare site to see I can only recall that when I was in my late teens ! A good sign I just hope this year will be as good ? I'll be out on my sib hopefully ? Would be great to have a meet with other members sometime this year ? I said the same last year but I'm feeling a lot better this year. Was going to launch last Sunday but due to unforseen circumstances it didn't happen !!! It was the best day to get out too.....

Hi Alan, I see your comment above, If you fancy a meet & perhaps a pint then name a pub local to you (menai bridge?). Give me a time and I shall be there! Regards, Ken.

Bit of a late reply and a lot going on. Today the 1st March 2018 ! ! ! I had an opportunity to go down to the Menai to see the sea state, it was not fit for a fish to be out ! How the remaining moored boats didn't break free in the relentless easterly wind and spring tide I don't know . A group of kayakers made a decision not to launch and go out, they assessed the situation and headed home ! Those are the touring fibreglass sit in kayaks. Then I went and had a chat with Dave in the Kayak fishing shop It would be great to meet and get out baffled1 and deerphil I've marked it down and will make it happen The weather and tide has to be right so it can be a comfortable experience. And hopefully a memorable one with some fish to show for our efforts, and it's also something to looking forward to I will keep you posted
