Its a known fact that Menai Bridge is a picturesque place to visit in more ways than one.
Whether paddling on the Menai, shore fishing ,taking unique photos of the iconic Suspension Bridge.
The Menai Straits has become a big business venture and a few have jumped aboard.
The business is the fast boat rides up and down the Straits from Caernarfon to Beaumaris .
At times it can be like the M25 !
But,sadly I feel an accident is waiting to happen.
But even more so the St George's Pier has had a gate put on at the expense of the tax payers.
This will stop locals, anglers and visitors from frequenting and enjoying it.
I caught my first solo angling fish as a kid there over 50 yes ago.
And have been fishing there ever since, and introduced my grandchildren to it now.
A gate has been quietly requested and fitted there by the fast rib boat rides, where a seperate jetty near their own site would have been a better economic idea.
Dave Jones a local kayak angling shop proprietor is campaigning to have this gate open for public and local access.
Like me he is very passionate about this issue and any support would be most appreciated.
See his FB page as named above and log your support please.
Thank You in advance and hope this type of post is ok by Admin

No problem Alan.
In fact we were there a couple of weeks ago on a last minute trip for a couple of days and I noticed the gate which I had not seen before. I would have contacted you but to be honest it was so last minute, I didn't think about doing so until we were there.
I had a little session on the rock pier at Moelfre but no takers on lures and my goodness there were loads of rabbits and thought it would worth trying to get permission to shoot on another trip over.
Anyway, good luck with your quest Alan.
Phil

Hi Phil, Apologies for not meeting up : ( on your visit. Next time : ) With regards to our plight to keep access to the pier many have joined in the quest. It's so important to keep it. I also contacted the WFSA who are assisting and watching with anticipation. Thanks again for your support.

Just an update on St George's pier Menai Bridge security gate Attended a council meeting last week. Anyway we got our points across that we the local and visiting public weren't happy that we weren't informed about them being put there. It was an us an them situation from the beginning, but what stirred the situation was a family had the gate shut in front of them ! By, a powerboat trip skipper restricting their access which could have been handled much better. But rather me rambling on by the end of the meeting we were on a level playing field. And communication was the key to resolve any issues. So, the outcome is we have access but if the gates are shut ? Then obtain the pass combination for the touch key pad from the pier master and or Dave Jones the Menai kayak fishing shop. But, in spring 2019 the Pier will be closed for repair. It'll be closed to all appart from the construction workers. So make the most of it up until then It's an iconic piece of history and a great fishing platform. If there are vessels/boats coming in and alongside to berth/pick up passengers whilst your there. Anglers are kindly requested to reel in to avoid engagement with the prop. Also the skippers have to slow right down when coming in too, and also kindly ask the anglers to as well. Hopefully happy days ps see Dave Jones on his FB page to show your kind support, Thank You x
