Hi all Do you guys think that having a flag on a long pole on the back of your kayaks a good idea, to make you more visible? What can I make the flag pole out of and how do I attache it ? Thanks gwolyn Ps I hope you have a great meet at weekend - too cold for me

Its a good idea in my opinion gwolyn - especially in a swell or if you have a dark coloured boat or clothing like i used to and partly still have. I usually go out with a flag made out of an old fishing rod - a cheap spinner- nice and flexible so it will take a tumble in the surf- stuck into a tube in the basket behind me. The flag was made out of cut down high-vis yellow trousers ( ex- building trade) stitched to top of the rod. Here is an pic from a while ago one winters day out in caernarvon bay with good old Zebra just dipping down behind a fair swell that developed now and again that day despite the fact that it looks flat calm it wasnt., there were times when he disappeared but you could still see his flag.

We could have a competition to design the best flag- the prize being the winning design becomes the official club flag. You could use picturegrams to depict the clubs name, i.e: North - compass pointing north Wales - outline of whale Kayak - pic of kayak Fishing - pic of fish or rod Use could employ a map of north wales, etc. The possiblities are endless. Thanks for the advice george I never thought of an old fishing rod as a flag pole. Cheers Gwolyn

I used a top section from an old beach caster .its just about right if you use something to soft you will find that on windy days it keeps bashing you on the head if its to stiff and you take a tumble in the surf then it will snap I had about 4/5 different tries with all sorts of things until I found the best pole for my flag I think it is a must I have nearly been hit by jet skies and boats a few times and on one of them occasions when I came in I spoke to the jet skier and he said with all the spray flying around he did not see me at all it was the flag he seen at the last minute so I think its well worth having one . As for a competition for a forum flag what a great idea I am sure if we can work something out we could get them made up so let’s see what we can think of and try sort one out.

Hi All I'm surprised that this site hasn't been inundated with suggestions for a flag design for this club, guess your too busy fishing Just to get the ball rolling I have created this flag design, but am unhappy about the dodgy green. ] Happy Yakin Gwolyn

The Green is good for visibility, but the map would be a bit indistinct, a big red dragon perhaps ?
