hi guys has anybody tried using the tiny feathers for sand eels i know you can buy a box full for a few quid but i thought it may be fun on a soft rod in some of the bays during the summer and would mean an easy way to get some fresh livebait before you start .
i bought 5 packs for 3.50 on ebay i have seen them in lots of tackle shops for about £1.00 a pack .

sounds like a good idea zeb ....... i often thought of using a small flat net to drag along the sandy bottoms for sand eels n prawns etc ..

i just thought it would be different and a bit of fun i have cut a fly rod down to use with them we tend to foul hook a lot in wales when feathering for other stuff but it would be nice to actually hook them in the mouth

like volusian says a shrimp push-net would be my solution - but catching them on micro-feathers adds interest to the whole experience of doing things off a kayak - traps could also be used off a kayak to catch live sandeel. Kayak fishing covers a whole lot more than just trophy hunting.

i tried using a simple design of net with a stright front adge and walked the waters edge waist deep .... got tons of shrimp .... some sand eels .. great for bait ... and cheap too . Near us we have lots of mussel beds at low tide .... gonna have to spend a day there i think .. guess it would have to be a real light setup if you want to consider sand eels as sport ... ! unless that is the Welsh sand eels are bigger than ours ..!

i think it would be fun to catch them on feathers on a small fly rod the bass and rays love them in the summer if you can get live then you stand a far greater chance of a good fish .

well if it works then im game .... i prefer ultra light tackle for all catches ... No wacking BIG ugly sticks for me. remember fishing off Hopes Nose Nr Torquay years ago using one light spinning rod and 1 fly for mackeral ... it was great fun ! ;D.
