If I want to fish from my yak on English lakes and rivers, I guess I need a licence.
Any idea where I get one from and how much ?
I will be going on a 3 day trip on the river Wye at the start of May, so may as well take a rod with me, then in the summer I have a week in the lake district.

Hi Sarge Its close season at the moment (15th March to 15th June) - you won't be able to fish on the river until June. However, the 2007/2008 licence can be bought online now for the start the season: www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/fish/399730/?lang=_eBear in mind that many stretches of river are controlled by angling clubs and you may need to buy a permit to fish those parts (& thats if they allow kayak fishing). In my area there are few stretches on the River Stour I can fish for free. Hope to give it ago this year.

Thanks, Seeing as I will be helping to escort numerous scouts on the trip I'll wait until the summer before getting one.

Thats right it runs from the when the season starts (June) to when it ends (March). However you can buy a licence valid for one day if that helps.

Hi Sarge, If you fish in Wales you require a rod licence but we don't have a closed season for course fish, only Salmon, Sewin (Sea Trout) and Brown Trout - check with the EA before you go. PS Hows your Moggy running, cracking car.
Cheers
Tim ;D
PS I'm working on a starter guide for anybody who might want to try fly fishing from their yaks - will post within the week.

Hi Tim, I'll let you know how the car is after it's MOT next week ! I know there are a few new rattles, but think it's just some bolts worked loose on the front shocks ! I had better check that out before I use it again.
