Seems that we need compasses when beach fishing as well !
This on the BBC today
Sea anglers lose way in thick fog . Coastguards rescued more than 50 sea anglers after they lost their way in thick fog on a beach near Prestatyn. The group became disorientated when fog descended during a competition at Talacre Beach in Denbighshire.
Most of the group were brought ashore after the alarm was raised at 1800 GMT on Saturday but five were still missing when the coastguard made a head count.
The missing men were finally guided back to shore using sirens on the Holyhead Coastguard Rescue vehicle.
None of the men needed hospital treatment, and all were accounted for, said the coastguard.
The anglers were shore fishermen who follow the water line and cast their lines into the water, following the tide in and out.
It is believed they were a long way out on a long, flat beach when the fog descended

as Tim said it was a flat calm sea too start off with we launched the boats about ten am and paddled out about a mile too see what we could catch. we was later caught up by Wayne fishing mad but we were only rewarded with two dabs so we headed for zig zags on the great orme not even a tap on the way back we stopped at pigeons cove for a break and a leak the sea was flat calm at pigeons cove but as soon as we started too come around the headland the sea really did chop up so we stayed close in too avoid the worst of it ended up fishing just under the pier where Tim caught his ten pound whiting it took him fifteen minutes too land the fog was coming in so we headed back to the paddling pool where we had launched from all in all it was a good days paddling the gps said we had paddled 4.9 miles it was great too see the lads on a nice day the launchlads having a chat at pigeons covespud having a nervous leakdon't shake his hand terry he hasn't washed it!!!Tim with his ten pound whiting
