Hi jonnychaos, I live in shrewsbury and got my two kayaks (prowler 13 and drifter angler) from shrewsbury marine in frankwell by the carpark, they do the full ocean range, they also can get other makes, you have to pay a small deposit on ordering, Mine both took about 4 weeks to arive from the states, but they do sometimes have a few in stock,

Johnny.. I'd never been on a Yak until last Autumn, initially I bought a Drifter because I fitted in it easily (i'm 6'3" and 100kg), and being so wide it's very stable, its the best for first timers, but you'll get your balance within days, seriously, and then you'll find the P13 is by far the better boat, narrower yaks are easier to paddle, but it doesn't make them less stable in real terms, I just took my 26" wide Scupper Pro (only had it weeks) onto rough sea (for me) and it was ace. The Drifter is easily the worst of my fleet, cos its way too wide, but it is still brilliant for learners, but it can be like paddling a barn door.

Johnny, if you wanna see loads of yaks, then go to Herefordshire Canoes in Orcop, not far from you, the most sit on tops in one shop that I've ever seen, and very nice people too. You can try them out on the lake right behind the shop! What more do you want?

Im gonna be using the kayak more for sea so would P13 or P15 be better. That place in Hereford looks great I may take a trip up there. Do any of you also use floatation suits on your kayaks or are they to Bulky. I have one from my Boat fishing so i was thinking of using it.

Far to bulky, you need a dry suit or semi -dry two piece cag & trousers, I fish the welsh coast a fair bit pluging for bass, And i use a semi-dry but in the winter i wear a wet suit under it just in case i go in the big briney. When i fish the river that depends on the weather t-shirt & shorts in sunny weather and semi-dry in the wet. not forgeting the PFD.(FLOATATION JACKET) AT ALL TIMES. happy yakin

I have a Prowler 13 Angler and am very plesaed with it. I would highly recommend it. However, as an alternative you could consider a Scrambler XT. I've just bought on for my stepson. I've paddled it and its very stable. Although not officially an 'angler' version, it came with a flush mount rod holder fitted. I got it from Brookbank for 389 inc a free paddle.
You'll need more than just a yak and paddle...clothing, pfd, etc etc so if finances are an issue then you could do worse than the Scrambler XT, as its so much cheaper than the Prowler.
The best advice, already given, is to take your time over choosing the right yak for you.

Now that the excitement of actual being able to afford a Kayak has subsided I do think that maybe looking for a 2nd hand prowler may be better to allow me to have more money to kit it out. But I got on hols Mid June to Anglesey which is where i wanna use it so I have till then to make the right choice.
