Plymouth Sea Kayak festival has been cancelled. SO, I have this weekend to myself!! Who is up for getting out and having a go for some decent fish? conger? tope? smoothounds? - none of these piddly things...proper fish!! If i can get the container cleared in the next day or two I'll even bring the new Marlin with me - and the new Dorado. Along with some sea kayaks so those who want to try a sit inside and dispel their fears (I'll hold your hand - it won't hurt!) you will be welcome to. The Skua sit inside is SO sstable you will wonder why you were so worried....just like the Marlin and Dorado too. We could do some re-entry practise and stuff if anyone wants some pointers - paddling efficiently, manoevering....whatever you want. BUT - we must go for some decent fish, I am getting withdrawel symptoms after all these weeks of rain and wind

Lets watch the weather and go from there - Trefor? if there are tope along the coast. Porth Dafach? if the smoothounds are still there on your spot. Maen Piscar - tope on the offshore side. Open to suggestions where there is a fairly easy route to the water - and secure parking for the trailer with all the kayaks on it. I don't want to be marching miles with half-a-dozen different kayaks.......and decent fishing. There is a good conger mark at Holyhead - and tope too about 1 mile out.
Anyone got any ideas?

How was it up there? Seemed pretty windy to me! This evening had a paddle around Trefor which was very nice.

It was windy but glorious! There was a fair swell running when I was at Bull Bay in the morning - it died away with the turn of the tide. I had the new owner of the first Marlin out with me - he had never been in a kayak before. After a couple of hours geting the feeland putting things into practise we went into the bigger seas of the tide race - working about 10 feet and breaking occassionally in places. He copedvery well until he tried surfing down the face of a very sharp one and leant the wrong way.....tried a low side brace diagonally on the face of a steep wave (a good 10-footer!) instead of leaning into the wave. The tide was ripping through by now so I didn't mess about, just got alongside and got him back in PDQ - about 5 minutes total including the time it took me to get alongside him - he had the boat right way up by then. Once back in it took about 5 boat lengths to paddle the cockpit dry - venturis work well !
Terry will post some piccies I hope when they get back - I don't know how to do it, so I have emailed them to him.

Sounds like you had a fun time. I only had the morning to play with so opted for an early start at porth dafarch - bit of a swell, which died down until just before high water at 11am - spent an hour or so catching makeral on the drift down to and around mackeral rock, then paddled back to left side of porthdafarch bay for some more drifting and yet more mackeral - then the wind picked up from the NE, along with the swell, and kept pushing us offshore quite quickly, so we packed in around 11.30am and paddled back in shortly after listening to a mayday on ch16 regarding a sunk pleasure craft off treaddur (occupants resuced by another craft). Ended up with about 20 mackeral each, so the family were happy on my return and the bait freezer is no longer empty of joeys. Nice to get out after being on holiday in states for the last two weeks and the last week back at work! Hoping the weather will improve by next weekend so I can do some bottom fishing.
