I know this subject has been done to death but here is my take on an easy way. I think it's been done before but it's the mat the did it for me. I have tried other mats but they weren't durable enough. I went into Wilko's today and saw this Its 1.6 m long. Rubberised on the back so it's scratch and slip resistant. Fits down the roof, windscreen and bonnet nicely. Gently lift one end of yak onto it Lift back end and it slides on with minimal effort. Cheap and easy, just the way I like it. Terry

sorry i ment just get a bar to fit into your own roof bars ,there was a old man in the canoe shop who just got a kayak and we thought theres no way he could lift it onto his car ,he just pulled out the bar and lifted the kayak on ,just thought it would help and stop any damage to the windscreen

I guess you could engineer something on the cheap but my DIY skills compare with English Uni students 'peaceful demonstration ' skills!!!
The mat works well and had no damage but I see what you mean.

Ste,
Try Keithyg a member here and the manager of Brookbank Warwick 01926 640573. They stock Thule and he will tell you if they are in the UK. He may also be 'genorous' with the price if you tell him you got his info from NWKF. If the do stock then you could probably pay him and either have it delivered or pick up from their Stockport branch.
