easier to paddle and better quality build in my opinion it is a little more expensive but worth the extra .

hi i have recently bought a prowler big game in 5ft 8 and 120kg and quite fit. before buying it i tried several kayaks including the manta ray 12. i hired this at oxwich beach on the gower it seemed to lean a lot when paddling each side it wasnt until i moved slightly to adjust the backrest that i realized how unstable it was i fell in normally this would not be a problem but i could not get back in it kept tipping over my wife was with me she held the other side handle but it was still hard to get in .i thaught it was me being flustered so i went clocer in in about 2ft every time i tried to get on the seat it capsized this experience could easily put me off.try it before you buy . i now have the big game and i can move arround on it as if it were a jetty

Re-entry drill really needs to be practiced on a fairly regular basis. I have a manta 12, and I haven't had a problem with re entry. Also I have been out in some conditions this year that last year I wouldn't have even considered. So again stability is a matter of getting used to your kit. I am sure that the big game will serve you well in the water, its a very stable kayak.

suveran, I have the same statistics as you and tried the Big Game and 14 other models and found the Manta 12 to be the best. ( actually the one I thought to be the best sunk on the first trip out So I went for the Manta 12 as I planed before that ) You must have been really unlucky to have a problematic Manta 12! I was OK for 3 hours on the much smaller Manta11. On paper it carries only 120 kg The Manta 12 I bought is superb! I paddled last weekend in river Severn which is in flood with current of 5 miles/hr at least. I managed one mile upstream within half an hour. You can never do this on a Big Game, soon you will find how limiting on your fishing it's lack of speed is. In your position I would very seriously consider the Stelthdrive: www.stealthdrive.co.nz/uk/I' ve tried it myself at the Exmouth meet of "anglers afloat" and met the guy who makes them - very nice chap! This motor will increase significantly the capabilities of the Big Game. By the way, I managed to outrun the Big Game going on full throttle with this motor. I was in a Kaskazi Dorado on my second day of paddling experience in my life ;D

a lot of the guys here have manta rays and they are very hard to tip i have one myself i find them as vlad says stable quick and easy to re-enter i dont know how you fell out. have a look in the safety section suveran and look at the re-entry drills video it takes a bit of practice at first but you soon get the hang of it .

after going on the manta ray i then read a lot of reviews and they all were different to my experience i was very suprised every one raved about them the only thing i can think is that this was a very bad example of a good allround kayak i have seemed to have touched a nerve with fellow manta ray owners. i didnt post my comment to start a mine is better than yours row this is just my honest experience with the manta ray 12 as for re entry i find it very easd on my boat and my friends mini x as we often just go out for a swim. it doesent bother me how i get out to fish i just like fishing and i thaught this would be a different angle to catch fish.

Hi There. I'm a recent new member and am looking for my first kayak after many years of varied shore fishing. Have had a good look at the kayak reviews on the site and the very usefull information posted on this thread. Hope to be investing in something in the first few months of next year. Untill then i'll be looking and learning from all. Hope to see some of you soon out on the water.

hHiya shrimpy
Welcome mate. Now I know its winter, and kayaking is a summer sport, but we do still get together on the odd occassion, so keep your eyes open as to when that might be. We can always bring along a spare kayak, and mabe some gear to wear. Don't forget, try as amany kayaks as you can, before making your mind up.
Steve
