Hi all ,I am looking to buy a vhf radio but i dont know which one ? I dont want the top of the range cos it wont get to much use just when i get down to the coast now and again ,any help pls thx

hi rink123 where safety is conserned buy the best you can if you buy a cheap one and say the batterys go while out and you need the coastguard your in trouble or if for any other reason you need it ind it lets you down your once again in trouble the difference between a good one and cheap one is about £60.00 you can get the icom ic-m71 for 149.00 now its money well spent you may not use it much but if you get in to trouble you will be glad you bought a reliable radio and spent the extra most of the cheap one dont last long and are a bit un-reliable so buy the best when it comes to the radio it may be the only thing between you or someone elses life .

Hi rink123, I use an Icom M31 which you can buy on line for around £120 and i've found it's spot-on. You could pay a little extra for the Icom M33 which floats but as you will probably fix it to you PFD I think it's not worth the extra.

Oh yes, you do need a licence, but they are free online from OFCOM (See link on home page)

Will it as arrived , BUT not what I ordered they sent me a heritage redfish 10 ,just my luck lol ,so now I got to send it back, its a nice yak but not what I asked for ,it was not brookbank at fault ,cos it came from manufacturer ,but my wife got her gemini feelfree so she is happy .

Gutted mate I was looking forward to seeing that although the redfish looks v v nice. Glad Shan has hers that means we have 5 kyaks and 1 roofrack to get to anglesey in June That should be fun.

just spoke to system-x your kayak is packaged and should be with you tomorow fingers crossed the guys have been so busy this week trying to keep up with demand that a mistake was made but they have acted so quickly to sort out the error that they deserve a big pat on the back for being so on the ball well done lads . and i know you wont be disapointed you are getting a great kayak its worth waiting the extra day .
