Guys I love my Easky but.... this week was the first time I have paddled it in full winter gear. Dry suit, fleece suit, fleece top, jeans and T shirt. All this put extra thickness everywhere.... my problem was that trying to get in and out was suddenly very, very snug. Now I am not skinny, but 141/2 st and 6ft was not a problem in Summer gear but this time it had me a bit worried. Now I notice the is 2" of clearand behind the seat up to th cockpit edge. Can I utilise this space? The way the seat is fixed it looks as if I woul have to replace it. HELP!!!! And don't say diet Or should I be mailing Pyrhana for advice? Cheers Terry

The seat bolts at the side of the cockpit with 1 or 2 screws either side. The seat is set on foam blocks and should slide back a little. There is no official alternative seat for the easky. I have fit a connect 30 white water seat in mine as i have a problem with a trapped sciatic nerve using the easky seat. The connect 30 seat would not be suitable because it is smaller than the easky seat and only has a short backrest. If you move the easky seat back you will have a problem altering the backrest in the high/low positions. Bit of a sticky problem this one!!! Hope this helps. Steve

And here I am having to buy some minicell foam to put behind the side pads in my North Shore Atlantic- I need to add at least two inches to stop myself sliding around in it,since I'm a svelte young thing (not so young now!) Actually, being a "snug fit" is the best idea, it makes edging far, far easier, particularly if you have to edge against wind for a long time (which is tiring otherwise). It also makes "being part of the kayak" easy, so you can swing your hips/body around. Also, if you slosh around inside the kayak, rolling is- so I've been told, impossible-actually its damn near impossible for me at the moment- the two bits, hip snap and sweep just aren't coming together, and its way too cold to be mucking about upside down getting cold water up my nose etc, in the sea at this time of the year. Ah yes,I 'm reading a book on kayak survival skills at the moment- its by a US writer. Apparently on the Pacific coast they use a sort of seat belt arrangement and thigh braces to hold themselves into siton tops! Obviously the seatbelt has a quick release buckle, but that way, it is (allegedly) possible to capsize and do a roll in a sit on top- You still lose all your gear though!

Wobbly, I am nice and snug. A combination of foot rests and knee braces keep me secure. It is just the cockpit aperture when I am fully winter kitted. it's tight on the lower legs. Summer no problem. A roll? Oh how I would love to learn how to roll.

A roll? Oh how I would love to learn how to roll. My project for this year. Seen the vidios and read the books. Scoured utube. Know how to do it in theory but determined to put it into practice. (and get it right)

I guess it's something you need an instructor for rather than self taught.
