Hi, I’m amazed this question hasn’t been asked before (at least not directly) but here goes… I’m sure you’ll be delighted to dish out advice.
I’ve been fishing all my life and used to sea kayak in my (distant) boyhood in the old closed-in kayaks with spraydecks. These sit—on-top kayaks seem fantastic and combining them with fishing seems ideal so I’m seriously thinking about buying one. But which is good for a starter? I realise most of you go for 13ft drifter style boats but how about smaller ones like the Ocean Frenzy or the Malibu mini X? My reasoning is that these will be more versatile for non-fishing and easier to transport and store. If I really get into it I’ll be happy to buy a bigger boat. The key question is how suitable are they for N. Wales sea use? In particular if I turned up at a meet would I still be able to keep up with you guys (once my arm muscles are suitably toned) and cope with the same water conditions?
Hope to get one soon and attend one of your meets.
Ian.

Get to a shop and sit in a few.... My bum and my legs were too big for a Frenzy, no point being uncomfortable, I fit really nicely in the Prowler 13 and it just happens its the most popular yak for fishing (I don't fish) I was new to kayaking and I love the P13. I have also paddled a Yakboard, Mars, Sidekick, Malibu2 and Drifter, and just sat in Frenzy, Scupper Pro, Malibu2 XL and Zest2. All except the Yakboard are suitable for sea use

I wont go on about boats Ian - you will get plenty of advice from everyone else i am sure of that. I have a P13 like Mr Hatter and he has told you a lot about them- all i would say about keeping up with the group- its like kev has already said above. Dont worry we have all ages and all states of fitness. You will manage no problem- just know your limits. If you can make it this Saturday even later on in the day i have a spare Frenzy which i would gladly bring along for you and some wetsuit stuff/pfd , dry cag and trousers/ radio etc. You could have the Frenzy for the day and get the chance to try all the other boats as well i'm sure.- just let me know before midnight tomorrow ;D

Thanks for the offer George. Unfortunately I can't make the meet tomorrow but will try and make the next one. I assume the kind offer of a loan of a frenzy will still stand. Have a good trip, I would have loved to come along and tried for some big whiting.
Hope to meet you all soon. Thanks for the advice. Ian.
