not been on the sea since December and needed to blow a few cobwebs away so met up with Cartman ( Glenn) and had a few hours in the surf , blowing a hoolie at 25mph gusting t0 30 plus but we learned a lot, edging etc and really put the Dorados handling to the test.
The Photos dont really give an idea as to how horrible it was.
Filey bay is quite flat so we were only in 5 ft of water and this produces losts of 3 to 5 ft breaking waves in quick succession.
The idea was to paddle parallel to the surf , learn how far we can lean over the Dorados, which is a hell of a long way and try stuff.
I learned to surf beam on under control without going over, handling beam on breakers is brilliant fun and we came away with so much confidence in the yaks in conditions you would probably never fish in.
I will say though that my T15 or Perception Triumph 13 would never have managed to deal with the beam on breakers the way the Dorado does , it simply rolls over the top without tipping at all. You can lean so much further and in full control confident that good paddle slap or dig in will give you control and keep beam on to the wave face if you want.
We spent some time upside down as well although next time we would take helmets, Glenn had a spill and his head hit the hard sand which was painfull but if there had been a stone, pebble, rock it could have lead to a serious injury.
All the same it was great fun.... and my wife annd kids we supplying us with hot fresh coffee to keep us warm.
There should been a third buthe decided to stay at home and make an easter bonnet. but i will noot mention his name as that would be unfair Karl... Newbold.
