Hi, I'm looking for some advice, I live about 40 miles from Cleveleys and have tried all week to get out fishing. But all week the winds have been Easterly around 10/11 mph I'm New to using the kayak in the sea, so have not gone out! Are the kind of winds fishable? How much does the direction matter? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi Billy. The wind can be your worst enemy. A kayak catches the wind and the drift becomes much faster. If the wind is blowing offshore you will find it hard to paddle back in. The other thing you have to consider with the wind is the tide. If the tide changes the sea state can deteriorate very quickly. If possible go out with someone who knows what they are doing until you gain enough experience. Send a PM to Timknight. He gets out with friends regularly and does well on this coast. Whatever you do, DONT TAKE RISKS. Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply. As it happens I went there today to look for myself ( minus the kayak!). There was a kayak out and a small sib, along with a couple of boats. To be honest I kicked myself as it looked flat calm close in. It all helps to build a picture up and gain the experience. Thanks again Steve.

Hi Billyno,
As Steve says there is a bunch of lads fishing there regularly, and they really know the venue and their fishing. pike or Timknight will give you detailed advice and I'm sure that they would show you the ropes ! I have had some great fishing the few times that I have been there, some lovely Smoothies June, July and ever present flatties.
Good Luck , Stay Safe.

Hi billy the wind is the main factor at Cleveland easterly wind flatten the sea. Winds in any other direction can make the sea a bit snotty. Winds around 12mph and over will make the sea pick up unless they are easterly.another thing to consider is size of tide. Stick to the smaller tides till you have a bit of experience,as the water fair rips through.I don't think I will be out at Clevleys till the cod come.

Tides up to about 8.5mtr not to bad. peelers best bait for the hounds will also pick them up on live lug. Be careful anchoring up if the tides running will get broadsided very quickly seen a few people going for a swim

Hi Billy. Weather for 5 bar looking good for this Saturday so far so I would imagine there will be a fair few out. Wish I wasn't on decorating duties or I would be there myself. Fished 5 bar quite a few times and never yet been disappointed. You don't have to venture too far out to have a decent day either.. Hope you manage to get out soon. Wish I could. Possibly bump into you there in the not too distant future. Tight lines.
