Registered my sib for the lakes this year, for the pike & perch fishing. I was hoping someone on here could point me in the right direction for free parking & launch areas on Windermere. In the past I have parked at the top of the lake on pay and display with public launch opposite.

I used to take mine to 'Hill of oakes caravan park' as I took the caravan up there as well and they have a private launch ramp but might be worth asking if a day permit is available. It is quite a few years since I have been there but a great place to go and they do have some cottages to rent. Hope that may be of some help. www.hillofoaks.co.uk/Phil

Thanks Phil will give them a ring. I went on Monday and launched at nabb ferry £13 +£8 parking. Only had one hit on a lure and never hooked up but still a brilliant day

The area by the camp site is a good spot for both pike and trout on lure but not tried for perch. We had some great weeks up there and often used the sib to go into Bowness if it was a busy period, rather nice to go and do a bit of shopping in the boat although it has been a few years now since being up there.

Managed to find a couple of wrecks while I was up there which should be good marks for the perch once the water warms a bit. Was only 4'c so most will still be in the deep water. Gave me a chance to play around with my new f finder and check reliability of latest outboard

You could of course go deep after the char. Get the lure down and motor along slowly, that is how the locals do it anyway.

Went back up to Windermere last Tuesday. Found somewhere to park and launch free. Seems as though the perch are still in the deeper water, saw schoals of fish in 35-50ft of water but due to wind was unable to present bait properly. So trolled a lure around at about 35ft deep in 100ft of water had 4 hits and never connected the 5th hit success a ferrox showed it's self at the side of the sib panic set in as i went for the net one final head shake and it was off GUTTED. I have always struggled to keep trebles in a trouts mouth don't know why, singles always seem to set good. Had a good day out and gave my latest outboard a dam good thrashing.

Hard luck pike, better to have hooked and lost than never to have hooked ar all ! Or maybe not ? It must have been sickening losing a ferrox trout, I've never caught one but would love to. Some amazing fishing in the Lake District alright.

Used singles on jigs and shads with good hook up rates but not confident using them on plugs. Sure i will get another chance eventually. Up around loch shiel this week so you never know possibly a ferrox or some Pollock on loch moridat
