I have said for many years that sharks of most species are circumnavigating our shores, even the Great White !
With Tope and now Shark fishing being an everyday pastime think of the rubby-dubby that's gone into the briney.
As well as following the bait fish these sharks will eat anything that's in their path.
And it's just a matter of time when we are in the water and a Great White is hunting
Killer Whales have been a frequent visitor around are coasts especially where there are seal colonies.
From Cornwall and all the way up to Scotland they have been seen regularily.
Going back 75 to 85 years ago when my grandfather god bless him in his youth used to swim across the Menai Straits only to be surrounded by a pod of Porpoise.
He was terrified he though they were going to eat him, but they just swam around him and after a while carried on their journey.
This was when the Menai Straits was clean, as he grew up he never saw them come through again
Obviously those mammals knew the Straits was getting polluted, so they never came back.
Around 25 years ago they spent 25 million cleaning and re doing the sewage pipework and treatment of.
A few years ago the Porpoise came through, with it making a headline in the local press.
Now Dolphins and Seals frequently use the Straits as their conveyor through and with it being cleaner many fish species come through in shoals.
My theory is that fish and mammals follow each other on their migratory journey and Sharks also follow too.
With the sea temp risen somewhat so there's no doubt that many will be coming up the Gulf Stream.
As the Menai Straits, the River Mersey has cleaned up over the years and the fishing is much better now than it has ever been.
But coming back to the Great White Shark sighting in the Solent, seen by a few individuals describing it as being a very large shark.
There are witness account video clips on YouTube etc identifying it as a Great White.
Apparently it has been followed and studied over the past 2 years !!!
One Shark had been tracked across the Atlantic and came close to Cornwall, but turned away in another direction could this be the Shark ?
Basking Sharks can be mistaken but the white underbelly on this particular Shark gave it away.
Whilst there were many enjoying their waterborne hobbies without a clue what was beneath the waves, this Shark was unphazed and cruised around the estuary.
Sending the resident seals into a panic many seeing them getting out of the water very hastily.
Knowing there was imminent danger and a possibility of becoming a meal 😬
These are just some of the tell tale signs as well as seabird activity indicating there's something going on below the surface.
Tight Lines
And take care on or in the water 🙂
