Hi all,
Im relativity new to Kayak fishing and riding the steep learning curve!
Im in the market for a fishfinder and I like the sound of the Lowrance Hook2 5inch triple shot. I was wondering if anyone here has fitted this transducer to a Galaxy Sturgeon? The transducer is 27cm long and may just about fit in the hull recess.
Theres a version without sidescan which has a shorter transducer.
thanks

Welcome aboard Deme
I am not familiar with this unit or any side scanning unit to be very honest but Lowrance electronics have an excellent name in the market with a growing number of followers in the kayak world. I have always mounted my transducers inside the hull where they work very well on single skin hulls and of course don't get damaged on either the ground or putting the kayak on the car however I suspect that a side scanning transducer woule not work inside the hull but it would be worth checking with the dealer or importer.
If you are not bothered about the side scanning, then the smaller transducer will go inside or in the recess provided.
Good luck with it all
Phil

Thanks Phil, and yes the transducer would need to be “wet” mounted. The
i was thinking the side scanning would give me an advantage when bass fishing near a pier or jetty. In theory it should pick up any fish between the supports. Of course in reality differentiating species is near impossible on a finder but I like the idea of scanning laterally as well as vertically for structure etc.

I must admit the concept of side scanning really interested me but I switched to around 90% freshwater lure fishing so the expense seemed rather pointless. I am sorry I cannot offer real advice on these units.

i use a side scan lawrence ff and a sturgeon so to fit it properly go to pound word and buy a nylon bread board cut it to fit the transducer well so its flush mounted to the hull effectivly making a mounting plate then fit the transducer to the bread board/mounting plate use the well behind the bread board for all the extra transducer wire.

You have always loved those nylon bread boards Terry, have you still got shares in the factory....... Phil
