You made good timing back Tony- fair play- great to meet you and your incredible boat and glad to hear you made some new and hopefully longlasting freinds today - we should thank Gizmo for jumping out in front of you that day- looking fwd to seeing you on all the meets in future. For me today was an excellent day out and one of considerable challange . I thought i had had hard days out on a kayak but today was worse- energy levels were low to start with-and then i took a chance to move towards to middle of the Conwy Estuary at its widest towards Glan Conwy and got involved in an increasing blow that grew and became relentless- i was in the middle of the widest part on virtually full flood and realised it was too bad to turn back to the others- as i would have been paddling into an almost galeforce wind at times. So with my body power falling rapidly - i seemed to run into a major energy gap- i thought i had only one chance to get out of here and that was to paddle to the other side of this stretch of water- i headed for the bird sanctuary carpark- i couldn't believe how long it took to get there - i was at my absolute limit when i finally got to shore when i then just fell out of the boat. I then realised Tim and Gizmo were behind me by a couple of hundred metres and i suspect they were suffering much the same as i was. It really did get tough - so much so (wind wise) i could hardly stand when communicating with Kev/terry and the rest of our party who were now on the opposite side of the estuary about a half mile away -- we made our new plans across the VHF and proceeded. We were well looked after by the rest of our party who kept in touch all along the way. They paddled up the west shore of Conwy in rough conditions to reach the bridge- for us we could not make any progress in what was at times a gale- we walked and dragged our kayaks through the weed and sometimes water for about 15 mins or so then took to the water again in a slightly less fierce wind hugging the coast mainly until we got to the the road bridge across Conwy where we found our first shelter from the wind ( what a pleasure that was ), made it along there finally turned the corner under the bridges back into the current and wind again another hard slog upto The Liverpool Arms- no money between us except for a squid and something Tim had and therefore no beer (and we had earned it) - coudn't believe it- after a rest we faced the trip back upto beacons - first part was fine then the wind got its act together again and the last few hundred metres was a battle- we only just got back in time in truth because within half an hour of us getting back the sea and /estuary just got wild and i doubt we would have made it back to where we started from if we had left it any later No fish caught- and i dont think anyone minded- we all had a great day out -very much developed paddling skills as we went through so much changing and strange water- a trial at times- but worth it- some great radio work done today as well - the radios proved their worth today. Great also to see Tony ( Topcat) who is a great supporter of our forum and spent a long time with us and came to see us off and helped out no-end and also george( Spud) who also did the same and then made his way to the Straits for a days fishing which i hope he managed to do ( Looking fwd to your report on that one Spud- hope you had a worthwhile day).(Sorry Tony and George as we didn't even make a cuppa for you today- will make up for it next time) and excellent also to see Pat (Choy) who is another great supporter who kept his watchfull on us all day whilst waiting to munch through the forum biscuit stocks ;)Thanks to Adam (my mate) for his help in the 'Van Kitchen' and above all thank you to all the guys who once again made it a great day out. (Pictutes will follow tomorrow)

Great report george looks like you had a very interesting day ,I am not surprised having seen the conditions with wind and the speed of the incoming tide .Its a good job i didnt come out with you ,I think i would have been in a lot of trouble . I drove down to conwy and you were out between the moored boats. I thought of you all out there while i drinking my tea back home
cheers tony
