I decided to give Cable bay another go. Got there about 8am and checked out the paths down to the beach, there's no way I could get the X Factor down & back up by myself - Gutted!!
I was going to head for Trefor but remembered a spot that you get to near Aberffraw(Think thats how you spell it), so I drove down to check it out, got there and found a steep track down with rocks straight infront, again I couldn't launch, I was just about to leave when I noticed what appeared to be tracks through the rocks to the beach -happy days, a bit of a struggle but 1/2hr later I was on the beach launching. The morning was glorious, no wind, bright sunshine, fabulous. I paddled out & spotted a charter boat fishing out to the left so I paddled over for a nosey.
As i got close i started picking up small pollock on the shrimp rig, so I spent the next couple of hours catching about 20 pollock in the 1 - 2lb range.
I wanted to fish TyCroes for the rays so I put on a couple of plugs that I wanted to troll on the paddle there, I hadn't paddled more than 50yds when the right hand rod doubled over, i thought i'd hooked the rocks and quickly grabbed the rod, as I did the rocks started pulling back , this was something special!!! It was easy 5 mins before i got site of it, I thought it was a big pollock but when I eventually got it near the boat it was a bass of a lifetime, double figures and some, I got it to the side of the boat and saw it was lightly hooked, panicking I reached around for the net (learnt my lesson after losing a big smoothie this week), as I did there was a sickening noise as the rod snapped just above the joint (when I got it out of the bag I'd seen that the eye was damaged but removed it and thought nothing about it ) Not only did it snap but as the carbon split it must have cut the line because all went slack - really, really, really gutted - speechless!!!
Especially when I realised there was another £12 of plug lightly attached to it .
Anyway paddled over to TyCroes but the rays weren't playing, the only thing I could get were doggies, mackerel and what looked like weavers - but I wasn't convinced.
I also got a cracking wrasse and later in the afternnon had a really frustrating time with Huss, I must have had half a dozen on but after 10yds or when I got them near the boat they simply spat the bait out. Paddled back about 6pm, conditions were still perfect and i didn't want to go!!
I'll deffo get pictures up later - as I need to win a new spinning rod before Chloe finds out i've bust hers!!!!!
