Kev Hambo and I got to Roscolyn at about 8.30. The sea was like glass. We were quickly on the water, which was made all the more easy by being able to drive the cars onto the beach to unload. Kev had his maiden voyage in his new X Factor. Very nice yak!!
We headed off to the right, where there are a few islands. There was a slight mist; which quickly burnt off. I got a Pollack first drop on the feathers.
After that it was slow but steady action. Kev had a couple of cracking Wrasse of 3lb plus.
He also had the biggest Pollack, one of about 4lb (no piccy). I reckon we had about five or six Pollack each. After a while we moved away from the rocks onto more sandy ground and immediately it was - doggies. So we gave it an hour or so and moved back into the rocks. By now the tide was ripping through between the islands; which made drifting fun.
We were kept company by a big old grey seal who was sunning himself on the rocks.
We also saw a pod of Dolphins.
Towards the end of the day we moved to a point just off the entrance to the bay and got into the mackies. We must have had a couple of dozen plus each. We could have really stocked up, as it was sometimes three to five at a time; but it was now 6.30 in the evening, and we'd been on the water (without a break) since about 8.45; so we called it a day.
All in all, another cracking day out. The weather was great.
My first time out of Roscolyn. It won't be my last, that's for sure.
Being able to load and unload on the beach is a great.
To cap it all, Kev doesn't eat fish. So he gave me all his Pollack for my smoker.
cheers
John
