Sorry for the late report but back at work & me heads battered. We had a couple of hours on the Yak from Pen-y-chain (thanks to Tegs for the directions Although the rods were taken it was more a leisurely paddle to see how the shoulder stood up to it post op, glad to say no reaction whatsoever ;D ;D. Unfortunately I forgot to charge up the camera battery so only a couple of pictures
We set off from the side of the Haven camp and had a nice slow paddle following the shoreline up to the headland, I've fished this area for a few years but this was the first time on the Yak, I was amazed how shallow it is until you get to the headland, it averaged 6 - 7 ft and we were well out of casting range from the shore, admittedly the tide was on the way out but I always thought it was deeper.
We got round the point, little or no wind, so I anchored up and had one rod with small baited feathers and the other rod with 3 large baits.
Wayne was drifting around trying to get a few mackerel, which he did - think he's shy
First was a knock on the feathers and up came my first makkie of the year
Whilst unhooking it the ratchet on the other reel signaled something was on the other rod, it quickly ran towards the rocks, this was going to be good ;D, I struck hard, connected for a split second and then got that sickening feeling as the line snapped, I assume somewhere near the knot - Gutted The monster from the deep was gone
I tied on another trace (and checked the knots etc :, single hook this time with a large chunk of mackerel on, minutes late the rod was nodding again, but this was no monster, it turned out to be the smallest woofer in the sea and it looks like it was camera shy
Sadly the camera battery gave up so no more pictures, only another mackerel was landed before we started on the paddle back. On the way back i spotted what looked like a shoal of garfish jumping out of the water and slashing the surface with their beaks. Got back to shore, the tide was out and it was a long way back to the car to pull the kayaks back on the trolleys, managed it, was thoroughly knackered after doing nothing for the last 6 weeks but boy was it good to be back out there ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
