Kev (Hambo), Dave (Curly) and I arrived at Cable Bay at about 9.15. It was minus 2, with a crystal clear sky and only a slight ripple.
We headed out of the bay and went left towards Ty Groes. We didn't go as far as Moniar and Hughsey went yesterday. Dave was first in with a small Whiting. His first Yak caught fish. (Well done mate). Dave then had a small Thorny, and I had a Whiting and a small flatty. I then had a nice Thorny of about 7-8lbs. It gave a good bend, even on my 30lb class rod. It was my first Ray ever. I reckon it was about 7-8lb simply from holding it up. It's hard to tell because (stating the obvious), they aren't fish shaped; which makes it hard to tell the weight if you have never caught and weighed any before. Patrick and Sponge Bob turned up, but went further up towards Ty Groes, opposite the gun sights. We stayed put for most of the morning, but it was slow going, so we moved to the right of Cable Bay off the headland.
We had more luck here. We all Thorny's. I reckon we all ended up with about 4 each for the day. I had my biggest one of the day off the headland. It was bigger than the first one I caught, so I put it at about 9-10lb. Again it put a good bend into my 30lb rod. I may be way off the mark with the weights, having never caught one before. But they both felt pretty d**n heavy to me. I'm afraid I don't have any piccy's. Curly has some, so hopefully he'll post them later.
It was a cracking day. Good weather. Warm as toast all day (we were all well wrapped up), good company and some good fishing.
All in all a cracking day all round.
