Simon (I'm Doomed) and I launched from Cable Bay yesterday and headed round to Ty Croes to target rays (and microscopic gurnard). Had a few mackerel on feathers for bait and found ourselves about a mile further along the coast than we had expected due to a strong North Westerly that had blown up as soon as we had hit the water! Thought it best to paddle back towards Cable bay (which was pretty tough going against wind and a tide) and anchored about 1/2 mile off of cable bay in 9m of water (the Garmin 90 works very nicely). More small gurnard on baited feathers and lots of dogfish until eventually Simon hooked this beauty (excuse the halo-dropped the camera and got a salty lens!) Naturally the fish (a female) was returned (barbless circle hook used). After all the excitement ("how do I pick it up......whine, sob") we headed (surfed) back into cable bay as the chop became unpleasant! It's an easy mark to fish and worth a go for the rays-had the weather been nicer we would have fished longer. Just so Simon doesn't get all the glory-here's me off Dinas Reef a few weeks back. Plenty of huss and some tiny bream. We'll try to write more reports in the future!
