So your cag has got a bit mucky with all those fish you've been hauling up so far this season and you want to have it sparkling without damaging the material in any way. ;D
Or perhaps you are not too fussed with a few marks here and there but the water does not run off as it used to.
Well I've found a solution.
When I first heard of this stuff I have to admit I was highly skeptical. I said to myself "I'm not sticking my precious breathables in a bloomin washing machine!"
Lol, as it happens I still am skeptical about using the w/machine but soon learned it was just as effective hand-washed and uses far less liquid using this method.
I decided to put this stuff to the test so took a few photos for a before and after to see how the results showed up.
Ok so here's a couple of "before pics"
As you can see after a good rinse I have a few marks here and there but more concerning for me is the fact the water seemed to soak into the fabric instead of running off like it did.
So the first job it to wash the cag and to do this all you have to do is fill a basin etc with 6litres of hand hot water.
Then soak your garment in it
Then take 1 full cap of the tech wash and give it a good hand wash. Once you're done with that rinse the garment thoroughly.
The next stage it to waterproof.
Again use 6 litres of hand hot water and soak the garment. (There is no need to dry out the cag before this.)
Now add 1 full cap of TX Direct:
After you agitate the water leave the garment for 10mins then agitate again thoroughly and rinse well.
Simples! (As the little meerkat would say) ;D
So does it work?
You bet!
Just like new.
There is the option of spray on waterproofing but this method shown ensures no seam etc is missed.
Also worth mentioning is I reckon I could have got away with washing / proofing a second cag with the same water.
So if you have any breathables in need of a new lease of life Nikwax may be the very product for you.
