Any suggestions on mounting this model fishfinder to the Scotty fishfinder mount? I am a novice at this lark and dont want to commit yet to mounting the sonar directly as I will probably find I will want to move it at a later time. By fitting it to a Scotty I can then convert the site to a Scotty rod holder without having to repair the holes. The problem is that the fishfinder mounting plate holes lie outside the surface of the Scotty mount. It will either need an intervening mounting plate to be made or else buy an alternative universal mount system to the Scotty that will take the fishfinder and that can subsequently be converted to a rod holder ? Or if there is a generally accepted ideal place for a fishfinder I will try to be brave and mount it direct to the kayak !

Paul it depends on what yak you have as to where and how is best to mount it. I have the same fish finder on my Prowler elite and the only hole I`ve drilled was for the wires to pass into the hull to the Battery and Transducer!

That's the mount I've been considering myself Terry - same as Paul my installation is unlikely to be permanent - just waiting for my 'perfect' yak to come along and I'll be changing! ;D
With a view to the number of holes I'm going to have to drill does anyone know if the power and transducer cables can be run down through the centre of this Scotty mount? Haven't got the FF yet (Will probably be the 160 colour) so haven't seen the mounting / cable arrangements on the unit itself. Also. Will it be possible to do a non permanent transducer installation. I understand they get bonded onto the inside of the hull but will it be possible to do that with something removeable?

Hi Martin. Some people cut the cables so they can be shortened ad re-joined inside the hull. This also means you can drill a smaller hole in the kayak to feed the wires through. As for the transducer you can use silicone sealer to stick it to the hull and this can be removed if needed. If you need any glands to fit to the hull (to feed the cables through and make a waterproof seal) i am sure i can sort something out for you. Hope this helps. Steve

Cutting the cables will make the guarantee null and void.

Cutting the cables will make the guarantee null and void. OUCH Haven't seen the plugs / cables yet but from the sound of it cutting them will definitely make for a better installation - tricky decision with the warranty issue though Thanks for offer of bits Steve - I did wonder if a Scotty FF mount could be used where you put the existing one on the Tarpon (Is it a Scotty?) It would need some kind of swivel though to bring the unit back up to vertical and I've seen nothing like that on the Scotty websites so I might have to add a 2nd mount. Question: If the FF was mounted onto a Scotty FF mount would there be access to route the cables through the Scotty mount? Would mean just one hole for everything then. Cheers Martin

Hi guys,
I've bought a Garmin 150 to fit to my Perception Freedom, can you recommend what is the best way to fit this to the boat and where to purchase the glands I would need?
Many thanks

I use one of these which whilst not cheap is superb. It allows you fold flat in surf and reposition to the most comfortable viewing then push out of the way when not in use. Only today, I have ordered a spare 1'' ball to use on my Nomad for holiday use. www.ram-mount.co.uk/device-mounts-gps-marine-c-360_538.htmlPhil
