Went for the my first sea trials yesterday in my new Prowler 4.5. I already own a very good Manta 12 but my 10yr old son had developed a keen interest so thought I would chance something different. I was a little nervous of the narrow lines and length but given the weight capacity felt it may cope with the 100kgs and 6' 2'' that is me in just socks. Must admit I was really impressed by it's stablity on the water - must have something to do with the low draught but given it is narrower that the Manta I did not feel any less secure. Thanks to advice from this board my fish finder was rigged up in no time and out I went. Overall assessment - Upsides - this is great to paddle and turn, effortless against tide and wind and as I have said provides a stable fishing platform. Mounded brass inserts for fixings are also a big bonus. Capsize drill proved relatively easy for self rescue. Downsides - Scupper holes are huge in the front and apart from the centre fixing, I have not yet figured out where to mount my other kit including anchor trolley. At over 4 metres and 28kgs it can be challenge to get it on the roof rack but I managed it ok in the end. Still I just love this boat and the ups beat the downs easy overall. Mark

I have an Elite and can get it on top of a VW transporter no probs and I`m only 5` 4" and 11 stone. It`s all in your lifting technique. I use the side handle to lift the yak onto my knee then from there onto my head then just push up with arms and on it goes.

Hi
Just getting into the old kayak fishing I have x2 feel free sea/touring kayaks (closed cockpit) but looking at a change of boat as struggled with a 5lb bass about a month ago in the closed cockpit - bit tippy! i ve found a prowler 4.5 elite in green/blue very good condition they are asking £499.00 for it - is this a good deal? cheers dave

Hi Dave I`m not sure how much they are new now but that sounds pretty good to me. They`re a great fishing platform with plenty of room. I`ve been out on mine for as long as 11 hours at a time and been comfy. Go for it

I have a prowler elite, and haven't tried anything I liked better yet; which is fortunate as I went to the demo day *after* buying it!
