System X have sent us a TNP Wolferine to try out.
Everyone knows TNP as a cheap alluminium shafted paddle. The Wolferine is a completly new paddle with some suprizing improvments and design inovations.
The one we have is a 2 piece, 215cm variable shaft with a weight of only 957gm.
The blades are white plastic touring design with a re-enforced edge
They have a surface area of 665 cm2 and have been designed as a recreational paddle.
On the bottom of the paddle is a "nose" !!!
This is a spike on the bottom of the paddle. As the water runs down the paddle blade it hits the nose and drops off . This eliminates the use of drip rings.
The shaft.
Glass shaft with carbon sections into the paddles and ferrule.
The shaft is variable 45 degree left or right feather. The glass shaft is ovaled on both pieces to suit left and right handed paddlers.
the ferrule is a good fit with no rattle and sets on a pin locking system. The pin is not the usual single pin but a double pin set using a coil spring making the lock very secure.
Went out for a paddle using the Manta11 and Wolferine.
The paddle was very nice to use. Clean entry and exit from the water and moved the manta suprizingly well against a stiff breeze.
The nose on the paddle was also a good idea that worked very well.
Most of the water runs off and very little run down the shaft.
The retail of the Wolferine is £64.95 for the 1 piece and £74.95 for the 2 piece.
Overall the paddle is well thought out, performs well and has a good finish. Very handy as the 2 piece suits both left and right handed paddlers without buying 2 paddles.
Anyone buying one of these wont be dissapointed.
