The new Drift light by wkmcornelisse.com
Is originally designed for the fishing industry to mark driftnets
But it has many other uses like being an ideal kayak light and safety light
This is my review of this new product
The unit is very strong and robust it will stand all of the knocks and bangs we tend to give our kit at first glance this looks like just another safety light but it is not. whats so special about this light ?.
it is an led light which means no bulbs to short out and a lot more hours of use with the same standard battery's it also has a day night censor which automatically turns the light on in the dark.
it has 2 modes permanent and flashing and comes with 2 adapters one is a flat mount for mounting on a flat surface ie kayak and a pole mount which can be attached to a pole for navigation ect .
The driftlight comes with 2 robust adaptors it is available in various colours of led but we are testing and using the white one
On the casing of the driftlight there are various moldings allowing you to attach a lanyard or safety rope this is a very robust unit
On the bottom of the unit there is a molded in button this locks in to the adapters
And makes for a very positive click and lock
The real clever bit is the led’s and the daylight censor this means that instead of burning power away during the light the unit switches its self of saving power.
in the flashing mode this light will work for 30 nights
the 2 adapter mounting plates are positive molding so can easily be attached to a kayak or pole they are drilled on the bottom for rivets or bolts the unit has a positive lock in both these adapters so wont fall out accidentally
the driftlight seen here is attached to a kayak console via a rivet or nut and bolt this in this position you would have the option of using the light as a navigation light and a small light to see what your doing if the flashing mode is activated then it would become an excellent safety light ,
the clever side molding would also allow the light to be attached to the pfd turning it in to either a static safey light or flashing safety marker
all in all this is a superb piece of kit which is leading the way forward the led’s and light censor are innovative and superbly Incorporated in to the unit the fact that no special battery's are needed just standard AA battery's are a real bonus with the robust molding i think this is a superior piece of kit to what we have sen in the past .at present it is marketed and sold by wkmcornelisse.com from The Netherlands
the whole thing and adapters retails at 50,00 euros .
