if we get in trouble at sea and need to call for help we may be asked to spell certain words like place names using the Phonetic alphabet so learn it

Good point there Zebra,
As radio transmissions are often difficult to decipher, at the best of times, Number pronunciations need to be altered slightly too.
You might feel a bit silly altering the pronunciation but believe me, when you hear it on the radio it makes sense and reduces mistakes being made.
