My kayak is a Malibu2XL.
It's a very stable kayak, but quite heavy and awkward to lift onto a car roof. This definitely a two man job. No problem when using a well balanced trolley to pull to the beach, which is my usual method. Again, recovering onto a beach is no problem - but over rocks loaded will fishing tackle, anchors, fish is not to be recommended.
Can't fault the quality of the standard fittings and general build quality. The standard, black, strap in seats are fine for me, but not robust enough for my usual 6ft 5in fishing partner. The seating/paddling position is comfortable, but you do get a wet bottom in all but the calmest conditions.
The standard kayak does not come with any hatches, but they are available and easy to fit. As are rod holders, paddle keepers, anchor pulley systems etc. I have hatches fitted fore and aft and secure the tackle box over where the centre hatch would be with the strap provided.
It feels stable and solid on the water and tracks really well. Also, a good turn of speed can be achieved with the two 'human engines'. It handles waves well, both head on and side on.
Using the hatches, these is plenty of storage within the hull and room for the trolley on the stern under the fitted cargo netting.
I'm still very satisfied with it after two years now.
Regards
Steve

On still water 2 up it'll hold a steady 4 knots if you're both fit. Solo its more like 3 1/2 knots. You need to keep in rythm though to be most efficient - the one at the back copies the paddle stroke of the one at the front. Plenty of room for 2 to fish from too, though you have to plan where your stuff goes well.

Ye, i have a malibu 2 xl i find no problem at all to paddle it on my own in fact i've only ever paddled it on my own with the seat in the middle. It came with a centre hatch which is very handy and i've fitted two flush rodholders at the back but they probably would have been better fitted on the side.I do agree though its a two man job putting it on the roof rack especially on a 4 x 4.
