I won a Kaskazi paddle in J&H's H4H raffle.
I finally nipped to Uttoxeter on Tuesday to pick it up from Simon's home. I was pleased to see it was the Kaskazi Endorfin, a winged paddle. After a nice lunch of cheese, biscuits and a bottle of Pedigree (thanks Simon ). I set off home.
Today I decided to give it a try. First thought was the blades look small and the curve on the paddle looked strange. As I put the paddle through the first few strokes it felt very different to my Robson Driver and the Carlisle Simply Magic.
As I went on I noticed how easily it went through the water, I looked at the Etrex and noticed that I was averaging a steady 4.3-4.5 mph upstream and upwind with less effort than normal.
I did 8 miles throughout the afternoon and I have to say that I need to work on it. It did feel easier but I think there is more to come if I can refine my technique.
One thing I missed was drip rings, the Endorfin has none, By the end of the trip my fingertips had gone wet and wrinkly.
One thing I tried that Simon told me to be aware of....Don't try paddling backwards with the paddle reversed, the aerilon effect will have you over. So I tried it in a controlled way...WOW! He was right, the blade is pulled down dramatically, it would have done me if I had not been expecting something dodgy.
Overall my first impression is I like the Endorfin wing. IFor me I don't thing it's particularly faster just less effort for the same speed, which has to be a good thing. . I hope I will like it more as I get used to it
