The Mini-X sound a bit like the Manta Ray, to me ? can someone tell me the difference,pls I have had the MR and it was supposed to be so light and stable ? light yes, stable compared to a big game NO ,so can someone tell me how it performs with the big boys out in the big chop :}

The new mini X has a couple of modifications.
First the Yak is now fitted with 4 x rod pods! The extra 2 are infront of the seating position which will be useful for bottom fishing.
The second modification is the front hatch is now hinged at the front end of the yak. The clips are on the side towards the paddler making access of this hatch easier.
Can't comment on anything else as not paddled it yet. I can comment on the fact that this is a very easy kayak to load. I have easily loaded it on and off a VW Transporter van. The position of the side handles makes it an easy solo job with NO effort. .. and of course it fits inside no problems!
Will feedback my views for others once its been water tested.

Borrowed the Mini-x on Sunday for the RNLI meet (cheers Zebra) so thought i should add my thoughts.
I was expecting the Mini-x to be hard work in the respect of its small size in comparison with rest of the big boys out there but i was very pleasantly surprised.
It was very, very stable , you'd have to be doing something really daft or be caught in some pretty bad surf to flip it over .
It tracked spot on as far as i could tell from my limited paddling experience.
As far as speed was concerned, i couldn't really fault it at all, it got me there and back with no great effort or ever giving the feeling of being slow(how fast do we really need to go anyway?).
Overall i'd say this kayak would fit the bill if you were looking for something easy to store and load while still being a stable fishing platform with plenty of storage room.
Thumbs up from me ;D

Hi Rink. If you are going to the next meet i have a manta ray 10. You are welcome to give it a go so you can compare it with the mini x. I think the manta ray is spot on but what suits one person doesnt suit everyone. Give them both a try before you make your mind up.

Replaced mine under warrenty as there have been some additional mods. re. fixtures in the last year. Faster than you would expect for length. Selling point is you can handle it easily and solo lift it up onto a Transit / VW van without risk. Lots of storage with wide hatches. Frenzy is the other option but you get a lot more features as standard on the Mini X. Add up the cost of hatches of this type and rod holders and you will see the price difference is not huge.

I know I'm old but it's better than the alternative.

Hi Wightman, I bought a mini x from Bournemouth canoes recently, (excellent service). I haven't been able to do more than a handful of trips, the wind has been NE 4-5. However, I did get out one really calm day and took it for a fairly long trip (for me!). It was extremely stable, tracked well and was very well behaved, none of these little twitches which make you jump when they're unexpected. I ran up on rocks in shallow water a couple of times (the sun was in my eyes) and it didn't tip sideways as some yaks do that have a more v shaped hull. It is a little slower than my Bic Bilbao but much more stable. There was more than enough room for me to fish although the front rod holders are too far forward and too low down the hull to be of any use to me. This isn't important to me as I only use one rod. The centre hatch is easily accessible and the locking devices aren't fiddly. There's more than enough room to store the basic amount of kit I carry so that suits me fine. It's light and easy to move on land, I can get it on the roof of my Agila without any problem, which is why I chose it over the other contenders, the Moken 10, Xplore 330 or Scupper pro. I'm dead chuffed with it and look forward to getting out once this bloody wind drops and changes direction. ATB Guern
