Here are a few pics of what I'm thinking about. I saw a similar idea on another forum but the guy just used them as they are now and just for holding the rods while bait fishing at anchor. I was thinking of putting a bolt right through where the T-joint and the pipe meet to stop it turning when a fish hits. I was also thinking of putting a bolt right through the flush mount then cutting two slots in the bottom of the 40mm pipe to slot over the bolt thus preventing it from turning. any thoughts on the idea. by sitting in the yak in the garage, I think the rods are not interfering with the paddle stroke.

I wonder just how much of that pipe has been bought by innovative kayak anglers?
Nice one Fergal

its very versitile izzetafox. Im just wondering if it'll be strong enough for trolling. I think it should be but I'll have the rods leashed anyway just incase

Hi Fergal. A good idea in theory. The only thing you forgot to add was. Also available in Black and Grey.
There is a down side to this. If the rod holder should turn and the rod faces backward it will be pointing down and could slide out of the holder. slots and bolts would work. if you had a fish on pulling the rod tip you would find it difficult to remove, especially being behind your seat. you would also be leaning towards the side the fish is pulling and this could put your stability at risk. Personally i would use Scottie or Ram rod holders, Purpose made and safer all round. Steve

yeah they look ok but in theory they may not be suitable. probably ok for bait fishing at anchor. i may have to get a set of scotties. i still need to fit my fish finder so a triple mount with the finder in the middle may be what i end up with

I dont think you will be disapointed. Rods and reels can be expensive to replace. Steve

great idea like buddy said about turning,You could put a pin through the rod holder on the kayak and cut some grooves in the white tube that would stop it from spinning around and you could set it in place. that way you could reverse them for getting in surf.

They are a universal rod holder which swivels in any direction so is perfectly suited to fishing at anchor and trolling. If they are mounted just forward of your existing rod holders, they will be in the right place for both jobs. Phil

They pull over to easily and just end up in the way. Have a look at some Railblaza holders and star points , much better.
