Do any forum members wear chest waders while fishing from their kayak ?
I have two pairs of neoprene chesties and was wondering if anyone else wears them and if they are considered safe while wearing your pfd ?

One of our members had a close call with waders, they filled when practicing re entrys. They filled so much he couldnt get back in his kayak. Other people do use waders but i would not use them myself. Check out this link. zebrakayak.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3493Steve.

It is possible but rarely recommended.
If they were really a viable option loads of people would be waring them but I have never seen anyone.

Thanks for the replies, it is as i expected, but thought it worth asking.
The best thing to do is stick to tried and tested clothing then, that is safer to wear while fishing. thanks john

All I can tell you is that I will never ever use waders again for kayak fishing, it scared the hell out of me and I was only 10yds from the shore in a canal basin with friends around. I could just touch the bottom but panic started with me, I am so glad I tried this in a canal basin and not at sea in a real life drama. When I got onto the steps, I had about 10lts of water in each leg so it was even hard to walk let alone self rescue. The cold water took all my strength within minutes after 3 or 4 failed self rescue attempts. Bite the bullet and get a drysuit. I took an unexpected swim one January and although it took my breath as the cold water hit my head, I remained WARM AND CALM throughout. I could have continued fishing for a couple of hours had I not dropped the anchor and warp in the sea. Stay warm and safe. Phil

Thanks for that Phil. A friend of mine drowned a couple of years ago while out wildfowling in cumbria, not sure exactly what happened as he was alone at the time, but it was presumed that he fell in, his chesties filled with water and was swept away with the tide ?
A sad time, but a wake-up call to anyone out in this environment.
It will be a dry suit asap before i get out on the briney john.
