I have been looking around ways to improve my kayak. Anchor Trolley routing, quick release etc Then I saw a video of a kayak with a small electric motor. I thought ooooo It seems fun, but you don't seem you use them in the UK much, most the videos are US based. Has anyone tried one. I might fit one for a giggle anyway, but are they useful on the sea? I guess it's weight that the issue, getting it to the water line. However there are a few small size batteries 35aH 8-10kg which seems ok. Might be nice as a little paddle support that's probably not going to last all day but 20-30 min of assistance might be nice? What are people's thoughts, any pics if you have one?

would have to make sure it it was ok for sea water. trotter has 1 for his big game fits it to a peice of timber behind his seat so no need to modify owt. or you could have a few more of the protien brews like we had on sunday lol. think motor would be safer option

I use electric power a hell of lot at sea in the shape of a Torqeedo but they come at a price. I am also playing at the moment with a Galaxy Cruz with it's own outboard. The battery is the critical aspect of any set up. The total cost of the Galaxy is £35 more than the battery alone for the Torqeedo. Lithium cells are becomming cheaper and I am going to be testing a couple of these on the 34lb thrust motor that came with the Galaxy. Here is a little review I did on the Torqeedo zebrakayak.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=5089I will let you know how we get on with the Galaxy outfit when completed. Phil
