Hi all Since I started kayak fishing 2 yrs ago I have use many anchors such as, 1.5kg and 0.7kg grapnel, 1kg Bruce or claw, fisherman’s style 1kg and the red cooper kayak anchor. All the anchor I have use with and without chain to see how they preform, for anchoring without chain I use a 5:1 scope and with chain 3:1 I find this works with all the anchors I have used unless the seabed is unsuitable. The only seabed I have found nearly impossible to get the anchor to set is shingle. From all the anchors I have used I have found for rough ground they all hold but I will only use them with a trip or a bridle. On sand and mud the Bruce and the red cooper anchor hold well and in light winds the 1.5kg grapnel and fisherman’s style holds. The best anchor I have use is either the Bruce or the red cooper. The red cooper anchor has great holding power in all seabed’s and I lightweight (230g or 8.11oz or 0.5lb) and will not damage your yak although the anchor is light weight I still sets quickly even without chain. All the 230g is in the end of the blade so the anchor will always sink onto its blade. Read up more on cooperanchors the blue anchor is the same design just bigger.

its a good investment if you anchor over sand a lot

That's the point most of my fishing is coarse angling and a grapnel, mud anchor and leashes suffice. That much money for occasional sea trips would be too much. I can see the potential though but again many kayak anglers are tight beggars. Terry
