very cheep engines over the last few days i have notices a lot of new very cheap engines on ebay as an example i see a 2 stroke 3.5hp brand new for £232.00 including postage these are coming from Portsmouth these are Chinese imports but does anybody have any experience with the Chinese import engines and are they of use as an auxiliary engine i have seen many different things imported from china and to be honest i think what i have seen have been of good quality i know the old saying if its too good to be true it probably is but i wondered if anybody had actually seen or used one of the import engines and what they thought about it

The only one I know of with a decent name is the Parson from Bill Higham. I think it is worth checking what spares are carried and do they offer a full back-up service, if they do, it should be ok. Also worth checking the warranty Terry.

Well you would assume that the product must be pretty good to give a 2 year warranty.

Personally I would stay away from Chinese engines why are they only guaranteed for 2 years when most non Chinese engines are guaranteed for 3 and depending on size some 5 years. To be fair though I have heard some good reports of the Parson engines which Phil has mentioned but also that they do corrode and lose the paint work when regularly dipped in the salty stuff. Time will tell.
