Good luck with your venture. As somebody who uses a Torqeedo motor on my kayak, I can confirm the motor will apply quite a force on the mounting and you may find some flex in the straps. If you do, try to run a strap over the box all the way under the kayak and back up to the box or in other words a large loop around the kayak/box. You may also find the box itself flexing so I would put a safety strap to the motor so if the box breaks, you won't loose the motor.
I really look forward to hearing your results.

Just got a battery tonight from a client who had an electric golf trolley. The trolley broke so i have the battery !! Its small and is only 20 ah but is perfect for a tester so i can see how the motor runs and pushes the kayak. I only need the motor to get back home if the tide is running hard with the wind some times so i wont need a huge 110 ah that would go for several hours. This little one will give me a taste of motor kayaking and give me a chance to get all my straps and gear in the right place. Thank you for the tips and i will indeed let you know the results. The motor is a 36lbs Motorguide and i think my little mini x is going to be quite nippy...more at the weekend once i get to give it a run. Nigel.
