Well here we go...got the battery,20 ah golf trolley battery. Loaded it all up in our local salt pool and gave it a trial. The motor and battery worked very well,in top gear it motored very well and with the small battery no disruption to balance at all. I motored for at least half an hour which is ample power to get me back down the creek against the tide as i come back from fishing. The whole experience of hands free powered kayaking was amazing and it will be of benifit to me after a long paddle or i could put a larger battery on for a hands free day of kayaking. I am going to make a custom box now for the back instead of my bendy milk crate. It did the job for the trial and never moved. I have posted on Utube the video,i can never post links up on here as i dont know how...Zebra or any kind souls out there could you do it for me...Thank you......... Link address...........http://youtu.be/7t91KbeiZMs. Called Mini X motor trial.

Im sure you'd get a little yammy/mariner 2stroke on that which weighs as much or a bit less than that battery and lekki motor together...?
You'd get more push that's a fact..!
Great post....!

So easy to set up...all the information in the world is on utube videos from America. Sit ,watch ,enjoy and learn and then just go for it,its so simple and keeping a light battery is SO safe also. Once you feel that little elec motor kick in its great ans so quiet too. I thought of a 2 stroke but the noise factor kicks in. I can cruise about the creeks here 10 feet from an Oyster catcher or a flock of Brent geese and they dont move...a petrol engine would change that. More push you say...well on speed number 5 we were humming along i tell you !!!

there are some great battery boxes made for caravaning i would think one of them would be really handy for this and easy to install i noticed some yellow ones in go outdoors last week for about £15.00

myself and steve1 were looking at the electric out boards and wondered if we shortened the shaft on the engine could we get better push. it would be quite an easy mod to make the shaft shorter the only thing in the shaft is a piece of twin core wire so it should not be much of a problem reducing the size of the shaft to do the mod

Shortening the shaft makes the motor control head at a nice height by your waist level once you know your ideal depth with the motor. I lifted the motor about 2 inches on my trial video and you can see the motor starts to make a vortex behind and you get more noise. It went a little quicker this way but the noise was a no no for me. I shall drop it again by an inch and see how she goes. I think i will shorten mine once i know all my box and battery are sorted and made stronger than my milk crate....next project.
