I went to Cable bay on Saturday with Gary for round two hoping on some more ray actions and this time my favourite type of rays would be making a show. Sun Rays We anchored up at the spot that produced the goods last week and not a sniff, the big tide wasn't favourable but I thought a few would have put in a appearance so we upped anchor and moved to a spot to fish over some mixed ground. We both changed one rod to micro sabikis just to see what was down there, first blood; Then there was two, then 3 then 4 and then 5.... The pattern continued for a few casts until my ray rod hooped over, a great fight ensued and I knew it was a better fish, I got her to the yak and was about to grab her only for her to make a last bid for freedom. Eventually on the yak a decent fish and certainly a PB, when will I learn to take my scales out with me. She was full of eggs and I'd put her into double figures? Shame I had no scales as we shall never know. Throughout the fight my other rod had been getting rattles so there where a few whiting hooked, as I was sorting out the bait on the ray rod the sabiki rod took a healthy bend.... eh? Livebaiting anyone? The hook had caught the front edge of the ray. Then it was all out for the next hour for the rays but all I could muster was a few dogfish. The sun was setting so it was time to get artsy. Good session, nice to see the sun put in a appearance

I did contemplate getting a pair of straight 6lb rod for plaice and bass fishing but the sonik is plenty sporting enough IMO. I cant really comment on any other rods as I havnt used them, just find a 6-12lb class rod and that should be fine
