Four of us Launched from Trefor yesterday. The plan was to paddle out to one of the many reefs and fish for Huss and whatever else was about.
It was forecast to be windless or to the effect of... but windless it was not. Strong gusts coming in from the west had whipped the sea up into a pretty challenging state. A steady 4 foot swell with a frequency of about 5 seconds with a few bigger ones thrown in for good measure ment my first launch on the RTM Tempo would be a interesting one.
The paddle out was pretty straight forward and I had great fun blasting through the bigger waves and getting a good soaking in the process. Anchoring was straight forward also for the 3 of us who hadn't dropped our anchor over board while faffing about haha
Paul tethered onto the back of me and down went the baits. Bites where pretty much instant on the fish baits. Our target species of Huss with the odd dogfish thrown in where the culprits the only problem is they where 6 inches long; (top one is huss the bottom is a dogfish)
On frozen lug we had a few whiting and small codling but nothing of size.
We endured the bombardment of baby shark for a few hours before heading back in, at one point I bought 3 to the side of the yak on a fillet of mackerel all of them just clinging onto the bait haha
Non of us where in a rush to get back home so we dumped our fishing gear on the beach and went back out to play in the water like children, its just nice to arse about every now and then and do some self rescues in realistic fishing conditions, we all know we can re-enter when its calm but even a little bit of chop and its a totally different thing. Paul got a few videos of us messing about Ill stick them up when he sends me them as my camera hasn't saved them properly :/
Just thought I'd mention; I got to paddle my mates Galaxy Sturgeon which I was expecting to handle like the Trident but was pleasantly surprised even in the swell it had a decent glide and didn't take a lot to get moving, even without the rudder she tracked very well and there really isn't any need for it IMO. Plenty of primary stability I managed to stand up for quite a while before I was 'offed'.
