anyone do much winter fly fishing on resovoirs ?

the winds meant to be droppin thurs/fri?
if it does I m goin to my nearest res to test my paddle board/fly set up
my theory is I can cast anywhere as I ll have lots of water behind me and I ll be stood up all the time
presume I need to get my fly/nymph down on sinking link in winter conditions to tempt semi dormant fish??
I usually use a black knat or green nymph - to be honest I haven t done much ffishin but want to give this ago
any advice would be useful

I don't go in winter any more David but when I did, I used bead head flies. Greenwell nymphs, Wooly buggers, Zonkers and the like or in other words something that will get down in the water quite easily.
