My recent Tope fishing addiction needed feeding, so with Thursday booked off and
the weather set fine, I was soon driving through stunning Welsh hills winding my way
to Tywyn again. My plan was to arrive for High tide and fish the ebb for a Tope and
then some light lure drift fishing along the coast afterwards.
In calm overcast conditions I had a half hearted and fruitless attempt at catching
some bait.
With no fresh I sent down the frozen and proceeded to feed the spider crabs. The reef was
carpeted with 'em ! Eight came up to the yak to laugh at me I sent them back as far
away as I could, but I swear they joined their mates again as quick as they could to keep
my baits from prying Tope eyes I suspected other bait robbers too and rigged up a quick
LRF set up. Instant bites confirmed my suspicions and I managed to hook one or two - little
Black Bream - in big numbers !
Something caught my eye in the distance - three huge majestic dolphins cruised past,
so beautiful great to see them again. Last year here, I was joined by a dozen or so
all around my yak for 20 minutes. One of my best yakfishing experiences without doubt.
With no Tope or even Huss and all my bait gone, it was time to up anchor and see if I could
change my luck with my favourite light lure fishing. I had a very enjoyable evening searching
for ........ Garfish
Of course they were released - " they got green bones " Bass will be in season soon and I'll
be back fishing for them in July. Most will still go back though.
I had a beautiful afternoon, the fishing was a challenge but I am still learning about this venue.
Next Tope fix, I will try fishing the float to keep the bait just off bottom and moving so
that the bait robbers go hungry.
I sat and soaked in the atmosphere, - and pondered the haul back at Low water - again !
Will I ever learn ?
Stay safe all,
and enjoy your yak fishing.
